Bariatric Surgery

(260) 435-7844

Surgery performed on the stomach and/or intestines to help an obese person lose weight is known as bariatric surgery. Bariatric surgery is usually performed on people who have a body mass index (BMI) of at least 35 and who also have other health issues, such as type 2 diabetes and/or heart disease.

Making the life-changing decision to undergo bariatric surgery is a decision that instills a renewed sense of self-confidence, freedom and quality of life in morbidly obese patients. Making this commitment to lose weight is a difficult and courageous thing to do, but choosing bariatric surgery as a complement to dietary and exercise changes is the best way to help ensure a long, active and healthy life.

Bariatric procedures performed at Lutheran Hospital include:

  • Gastric sleeve
  • Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery
  • Laparoscopic adjustable banding
  • Stomach intestinal pylorus-sparing surgery (SIPS)
