Neal Agee, MD, joined Lutheran Medical Group’s surgery team in October 2014. He was the first surgical oncologist to join the group. Dr. Agee specializes in gastrointestinal operations that include hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and other foregut GI malignancies. In addition to working with physicians throughout the region, Dr. Agee provides consults and treatment for neighboring states, as well as patients with complex cases. He has also been recognized by Medicare as a preferred provider for melanoma care in the region.

Dr. Agee remains active in research and technology trials testing the safety and effectiveness of minimally invasive treatments for pancreatic and liver cancers. He has published over a dozen articles. He has given multiple lectures and frequently trains other surgeons in the latest minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Agee holds academic appointments at the University of Central Florida’s College of Medicine, Indiana University and the University of Cincinnati.

As medical director of Lutheran Hospital’s surgical oncology program, Dr. Agee collaborates with primary care physicians, gastroenterologists and oncologists to ensure patients have access to the most innovative and successful treatments available.

Dr. Agee graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in engineering, and he earned a medical degree from Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland, in 2005. In 2008, he completed a trauma and burn residency at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz., where he also completed a surgery research residency in 2009.

Dr. Agee completed a research fellowship in invasive surgery at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C., in 2010, a general surgery residency at Brooklyn Hospital Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 2013, and a hepato-pancreatico-biliary and advanced gastroenterology surgical oncology fellowship at Florida Hospital in Orlando in 2014.

Dr. Agee is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
