What is a pediatric gastroenterologist?
A pediatric gastroenterologist specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of the digestive system in children. Digestive problems in children are quite different than similar conditions affecting adults. Pediatric gastroenterologists have complete knowledge of how foods move through the digestive tract and how they are digested, absorbed and then removed from the body. They focus on conditions that affect the biliary system (bile ducts, gallbladder, liver and pancreas), colon and rectum, esophagus, large and small intestines and stomach.

Conditions treated include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Celiac panel
  • Constipation/diarrhea
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS)
  • Failure to thrive
  • GI bleed
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Liver/pancreas abnormalities
  • Reflux
  • Ulcerative colitis
